Mapping Resources

My first map made from a Cartographer’s Guild Tutorial
  • Cartographers Guild -This is a web community dedicated to the fine art of mapping, with a focus on mapping for RPG purposes. You can find lots of excellent tutorials, and discussions about various mapping techniques and software.
  • MapTool -This free mapping software is quite powerful and can be used to run games online or through a network. The software requires a bit of front-end work to build up a symbol library, but can produce some beautiful results quite quickly. I find this tool works best at the dungeon/site scale as larger maps become quite resource intensive.
  • The Vintyri Project -This site includes several sets of downloadable structure images appropriate for building city maps. While the site specifically mentions that they are for use in Fractal Mapper and Dundjinni, the images in the Dundjinni sets are formatted as .png files, and so can be imported into most graphic programs.
